National Center for Health Statistics definition

The National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) is an important agency of the U.S. Federal Statistical System. The NCHS compiles and provides statistical information to guide actions and policies to improve the health of all American citizens. It also holds a biennial data user conference and disseminates data and statistics online and in print.

The NCHS is housed within the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), which is part of the United States Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). The headquarters are situated in Hyattsville, Maryland.
