Short form Birth Certificate definition

Short form birth certificates are often referred as “abstracts”. They only provide a portion of the information that is included in the long form birth certificate. The short form birth certificate can be used to demonstrate that a full birth certificate has been filed for you.
It should be noted, however, that a short form birth certificate cannot be used to obtain a passport. This format of birth certificate contains most of the important information that appears on the long form format.
