Divorce decree definition

Last updated January 28th, 2022

A divorce decree is a court document that includes the final judgment from divorce court. This document will contain details about the divorce case, and details about spousal support, child, support, custody, visitation, property division, and other important information. Most divorce decrees are very complete and will contain all of the agreed-upon information and duties from the divorce case.

It will show who is responsible for getting life and health insurance, whether the wife will take her maiden name again, and how the debt is to be divided. Only a court can issue a divorce decree, which is given to all parties involved once the case is over. If there wasn’t a trial and the case was settled, the divorce decree will contain the terms of the settlement.
